FROM THE FIELD
Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services
Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health
The Pine Rest Pediatric Center of Behavioral Health is a new, state-of-the-art space tailored specifically to meet the behavioral health treatment needs of Michigan's kids. Located on Pine Rest’s Southeast Grand Rapids campus on 68th Street SE between Division Ave SE and Madison Ave SE, this single-destination facility will greatly expand access to behavioral health services statewide, meeting the unique needs of pediatric patients, their families and caregivers and ensuring children and teens receive timely services.
Located on Pine Rest’s Grand Rapids 220-acre park-like campus, this multilevel facility will provide a warm, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere for families. Taking inspiration from the wooded site, a treehouse theme guided design, infusing the center with the freedom and refuge the forest provides. Extensive research and experience guided the design for this remarkable 136,000-SF facility.
The Plan
The first floor will host a 66-bed inpatient unit, a psychiatric urgent care center, and multiple spaces to support family and caregivers including a family lounge, cafeteria, and chapel. The inpatient unit will include a treatment mall, a gym, a kid-friendly dining room, a technology classroom, and an art room. The second floor will house an eating disorders clinic, a substance use disorder clinic, autism services and partial hospitalization programs.
The project has many outdoor spaces including pocket parks, a private staff patio and several secure outdoor courtyards for inpatient units.
